Clean Coal. Really?

Clean Coal.
True Lies.

I always wanted to get a handle on all the election talk between proponents of "clean" coal and the nay sayers and decided to get down to the facts.
Now, a majority of the electricty in the US comes from coal and coal burning causes a cartfull of environmental issues namely
-Mining hazards and pollution
-Coal burning produces CO2, a lot of it, actually almost 30% of greenhouse gases in the US.
-Along with the CO2, do not forget all the by-products of polluatants that are released from coal burning.

So, simply put "clean" or "cleaner" coal has to address and mitigate the problems above. The DOE defines clean coal as "a new generation of energy processes that sharply reduce air emissions and other pollutants from coal-burning power plants." Though coal plants have considerably reduced their emissions, CO2 have been much harder to control. Carbon sequestrian leaves more questions than answers.

So far, coal will need more than just being preceded by "clean" to be credible.

We can get it done!

The Obama administration's stimulus sure has a lot of "green" quite literally, $789 billion. But it does include a considerable amount of money in "green" initiatives
Kevin Knobloch talks about the initiatives in an article on The Progressive...
